Reformist Revival of Falsafa’s Soteriology

The article highlights one of the most important aspects modernizing potential Falsafa (hellenizing philosophy classical Islam), associated with significance soteriological concept developed within its framework for that began in 19th century reconstruction theological discourse. On example activity Jamaladdin al-Afghani (d. 1897), Muhammad Abduh 1905), Rashid Rida 1935) and other reformers, it is shown how thinkers inspired by ideals scientific rationality socio-cultural progress overcame eschatologism traditional theology, applying to intellectualistically presentistically oriented teachings Muslim peripatetics, primarily Ibn Sina (Avicenna; d. 1037) Rushd (Averroes; 1198). In fact, denying normativity hadiths (reports proper prophetic sayings) as a source creed-aqida, modernists exclude from list obligatory dogmas all principles based on hadiths, including traditions nearness end world signs precede it. pays special attention reformist rehabilitation Falsafa’s theses, previously qualified heterodox: immateriality soul, unresuscitatability earthly body, otherness otherworldly corporeality, intellectual-imaginative nature afterlife, universality final salvation (apokatastasis).
